TIME, TIMES AND HALF A TIME
ZIONISM - Do the Jews belong in Israel?

This really should be read in the context of "The False Prophet".  And that book read that from the beginning as it is a brick by brick empirical argument.  And it's free!  In HTML or PDF

The "times" problems demonstrate with crystal clarity what a perfect seal God put on the book of Daniel.

Daniel 12:4  But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, [even] to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
God followed this up with a crystal clear statement of fact:
Daniel 12:9  And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words [are] closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Following is a fun mathematical exercise regarding the "times of the Gentiles" in the holy land.  Daniel wrote about the dispersion of the Jews and their persecution, and control of the holy land by satanically led Gentile powers.

In Daniel we are given a term "time, times and half a time", but the Old Testament never defines the term "times".
Most Christians are familiar with the following verse:

2 Peter 3:8  But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

The word that is generally translated as "day", in this verse, is "hemera".  But that's not the only translation of this word.  From Strong's:

New Testament Greek Definition:
2250 hemera {hay-mer'-ah}
from (with 5610 implied) of a derivative of hemai (to sit,
akin to the base of 1476) meaning tame, i.e. gentle;
TDNT - 2:943,309; n f
AV - day 355, daily + 2596 15, time 3, not tr 2, misc 14; 389

What happens when we try this translation with each "time" as a thousand years?

Jews - in both Messianic and non-Messianic camps - translation of the Hebrew idiom "time, times and half a time" is somewhat different than most of us Christians may have been taught.

Daniel 12:7. And I heard the man clad in linen, who was above the waters of the river, and he raised his right hand and his left hand to the heavens, and he swore by the Life of the world, that in the time of [two] times and a half, and when they have ended shattering the strength of the holy people, all these will end. Link to chabad.org (After all, what would Jews know about Hebrew idioms? :-)

Now let's just consider for a moment, what if these Jews actually understand Hebrew idioms better than Christians do, and what if the "time, times and a half" problems are actually a factor of 2-1/2 and not 3-1/2?

A couple of chapters earlier in this same prophecy we find a specific date pin in:
Daniel 10:1 In the third year of Cyrus, king of Persia, a word was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar, and the word was true, and for a long time, and he understood the word and he understood it in the vision.

You can Yahoo confirmation of the first year of Cyrus to be 536, or the third year of Cyrus to be 533 BC.

Now let's put it together: 2-1/2 "times" =  2500 - 533 = 1967.(see note at page bottom for more on dating)

The "times of the Gentiles" in the holy city were fulfilled in 1967 when the Jews finally regained control of Jerusalem.  The end of the "shattering of the strength of the holy people".  In the KJV it's translated "....shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people...."

Daniel writes that the prophecy was for "a long time". And this prophecy is about successive kingdom reigns that spanned hundreds of years of Gentile control over the holy land.  Is it reasonable, then, to imagine that "a long time" is 3-1/2 years?  The New American Bible translates it simply as 3-1/2 years, not even offering their readers the term "times".

Is the above a mathematical and textual accident that spans 2500 years?  Does God offer proof that this isn't a one-trick pony?

Daniel includes this same term in another verse.  In Chapter 7 we see the successive lion, bear, leopard and 4th "terrible" kingdom beasts that would rule the holy land.  Then in verse 25 we find:

Daniel 7:25. And he will speak words against the Most High, and he will oppress the high holy ones, and he will think to change the times and the law, and they will be delivered into his hand until a time, two times, and half a time.

In the first verse of this chapter we are given another specific date pin:

Daniel 7:1. In the first year of Belshazzar, the king of Babylon, Daniel saw a dream, and the visions of his mind [while asleep] on his bed; then he wrote the dream and said the beginnings of the matters.

You can Yahoo confirmation for the first year of Belshazzar to be 552 BC

2500 - 552 = 1948  Israel came in from the wilderness of the nations declaring her independence.  The end of the Gentile control of the holy land.

THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS.  PROOF OF GOD.

What a perfect seal God put on the book of Daniel!!!  It wasn't until after the dates of 1948 and 1967 had passed, as we entered Daniel's "time of the end", that anybody (yes, including John Darby) could understand the simple mathematical and textual significance of these blessed verses.  But then Daniel did promise that our knowledge would be increased in these times.

Now wasn't that exercise more fun than some futurist fantasy?  And particularly more fun than dead doctrinal formalism?  And the above study regards FULFILLED PROPHECY, not futurist speculation or guesswork theology.

For any reading that may have been tempted to join in the chorus of anti-Zionists the bible warns:
Genesis 12:2-3   And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:  3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Is the following verse related to our times in the middle east?

Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

Here's a link to Isaac Newton and Matthew Henry's views and palpable excitement for they days that they anticipated we would be living in.

Isaac Newton - "This Prophecy is called the Revelation, with respect to the scripture of truth, which Daniel was commanded to shut up and seal, till the time of the end. Daniel sealed it until the time of the end; {Daniel 12:4, 9} and until that time comes, the Lamb is opening the seals:....
All which is as much as to say, that these Prophecies of Daniel and John should not be understood till the time of the end: .... But in the very end, the Prophecy should be so far interpreted as to convince many."
(Part II. Observations Upon the Apocalypse of St. John. Chap 1)

"The folly of interpreters has been to foretell times and things by this prophecy [Revelation], as if God designed to make them prophets. By this rashness they have not only exposed themselves, but brought the prophecy also into contempt. The design of God was much otherwise. He gave this and the prophecies of the Old Testament, not to gratify men's curiosities by enabling them to foreknow things, but that after they were fulfilled they might be interpreted by the event, and his own providence, not the interpreters', be then manifested thereby to the world. For the event of things predicted many ages before will then be a convincing argument that the world is governed by Providence." - Sir Isaac Newton

2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4  And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Note: Liberal dating of the Battle of Carchemish when the Jews were taken captive is set at 505 BC, and conservative dating at 506 BC.  The Jewish captivity was 70 years long, making the fall of Babylon 535 BC for liberal theologians and 536 for conservatives.
However, some of the same liberals with a doctrinal axe to grind date the first year of Cyrus and the fall of Babylon at 539 BC, but by this reckoning the captivity of the Jews would then have only lasted 66 years.

This exercise included just two of the over dozen math problems you can study in "The False Prophet" by Ellis Skolfield.  For over 27 years Skolfield has written of the central role of Islam in end-time prophecy.  It is available absolutely free in HTML or PDF at this link.
