Scroll for maps.  Besides noting that the leopard-bear-lion beast of Revelation 13 includes the first three of Daniel's beasts - combined as one - but not Daniel's 4th "terrible" beast, there are more verses that help us confirm that the leopard-bear-lion beast - Islam - is not about the Roman Empire.  First we have to pay attention to the author and what he is writing about:

Revelation 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

Thus it is necessary to understand it in the context of the times during which John was writing, looking through his eyes, when we read the following verses, and indeed when considering the entirety of his vision if we are to uniformly apply this ethnographic hermeneutic:

Revelation 17:10  And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, [and] the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.

Considering John's assignment we can see that the 6th king or the one that "is" in power as John wrote, was the Roman Empire.  Just as John prophesied the Roman Empire was conquered by the 7th beast that had "not yet come" (by the Islamic First Jihad).

The Islamic Empire lost it's power - but not it's seat - after the First Jihad was mortally wounded in the Battle of Tours, and the two horned beast later "exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him", or in the presence of, the Islamic beast.  The Islamic Empire lost it's power but maintained it's presence in the area.  The transfer of Western wealth through arms sales and oil purchase eventually healed the mortal wound of the Islamic beast, financing the Second Jihad in the image of the First Jihad.
The book "Infidel" offers a personal late 20th century Somali woman's view of the healing of this Islamic beast, as a direct result of Western financing of Islam via Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Brotherhood.

It is important for everyone to get familiar with The History of Mecca.

It may be more constructive to recognize these seven "kings" in terms of the successive empire or kingdom reigns, since some kingdoms spanned periods longer than individual leaders, and particularly in light of the very next verse where we are brought back to our term "beast", which Daniel has already defined for us.
(Strongs - kings - New Testament Greek Definition:  935 basileus {bas-il-yooce'} probably from 939 (through the notion of a foundation of power)

Revelation 17:11  And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

In this verse we find an 8th beast that "was" - before John - but "is not".  So the 8th beast isn't about the Roman Empire either, but it is "of the seven".  Considering the identity of our leopard-bear-lion beast above, today seated in Syria, Iran and Iraq, we find that it fits as having been "was", and also as having been "of the seven" (perhaps particularly of the seventh), but is not the "is" "beast" or kingdom, of John's day - the Roman Empire.

"….. it is said, five of the seven Kings are fallen, and one is, and another is not yet come; and the Beast that was and is not, being wounded to death with a sword, he is the eighth, and of the seven: he was therefore a collateral part of the seventh." - Isaac Newton

Regarding "...and goeth into perdition.", or destruction here are a couple of applicable verses which may be relatively close together in timing:

Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet [are], and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

The 7th and 8th beasts are Islam - the LBL beast's 7th head - Satan's final kingdom.  Satan's power manifest in Islamic Jihad.  We learned above that Satan gave the Islamic beast his power, seat and authority.  The Jihadists hold ultimate power over the world through oil.
All Muslims are Jihadists though the term is interpreted loosely by liberals (who are apostates as far as fundamentalists are concerned), and understood  in the spirit of the Quran, by fundamentalists.  Their prophet was their model for Jihad violence that is practiced around the world today.  Clearly those in the Middle East - the Arabic speaking followers in cradle of Islam - best understand and follow this religion, not the wishful reinterpreters in the West.
"U.S. mosques that feel the Koran should be interpreted with consideration of its purposes and modern circumstances: 71 percent".  There are, however, specific suras in the Koran that prohibit this. Let alone that these "hypocrites" would get their heads cut off for suggesting that in the cradle of the religion. Blessedly the Gospel is as true and relevant today, as it was in the first century, Muhammad's seventh century and will be forever.
Perhaps these wishful Westerners are akin to the apostates in the ECUSA, who wished that the bible said something other than it does.

The mortal wound and death knell of the first Jihad - the Battle of Tours - was pinned by Daniel's "1335 days".
The Battle of Tours was the turning point, marking the zenith of the Islamic onslaught of the First Jihad, delivering the mortal wound to the spearhead of the invading forces, and killing the literal head of the advancing army Emir Abd er Rahman.  "Without his leadership and guidance, the other commanders were unable to even agree on a commander to lead them back into battle the following morning. The effect of the death of Abdul Rahman on both Islamic and world history was profound."

"Both western and eastern historians agree that had Abdul Rahman prevailed at Tours, he would probably have conquered all of Christian Europe, Martel and his Frankish Army being all that stood between Islam and Rome itself, [5] and all history would have been far different. 'There were no further Muslim invasions of Frankish territory, and Charles's victory has often been regarded as decisive for world history, since it preserved western Europe from Muslim conquest and Islamization.'"[6]

Since we understand that the dragon - Satan - gave his seat and power to the Islamic beast (LBL above), this 8th beast is then Satan's final power play exercising his earthly power and seat and authority over his kingdoms.  The kingdoms that he offered Jesus.

These eight successive kingdom "beasts" are thus:  (link to this spot)
(There is no shortage of agreement regarding the first six of these eight kingdom beasts. )

Egypt

Assyria*

Babylon - lion*

Medo-Persia - bear*

Greece - leopard*

 (link to this spot)
The above beasts are the five fallen kings/beasts.
Revelation 17:10  And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, [and] the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
In verse 11 below we learn that these kings are also beasts.

Roman Empire is John's sixth king.  This is John's "one is" king that ruled as John wrote.  It was conquered by the Islamic First Jihad, the seventh that had "not yet come".  The Roman Empire  was also Daniel's 4th "dreadful" beast, that is not part of the body of the leopard-bear-lion beast of Revelation 13 (LBL).

Islamic First Jihad* The seventh king/beast. Islam composes the seventh head of the leopard-bear-lion beast.  The Islamic First Jihad conquered the Roman Empire as John's king/beast that had "not yet come".  Mortally wounded at the Battle of Tours, the Islamic First Jihad had ruled for the "short space" of 152 years to it's peak.  This epic battle was pinned by Daniel's 1335 "days" and proved to be the death-knell of the First Jihad after it had nearly conquered the whole known world.

Revelation 17:11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

Islamic Second Jihad*  This is the eighth beast of the seventh "head' (The Islamic Empire).  The last in the succession of Satan's kingdoms.  Empowered by the dragon - Satan - Islam is at the power center of even our global economy.  Being "of the seven", and perhaps more particularly of the seventh (Isaac Newton), the eighth beast is the Islamic Second Jihad, in the image of the First Jihad, that was mortally wounded in the Battle of Tours and then later healed through Western wealth transfer through oil development and purchase.  While the Muslims continuously possessed the land throughout the period, the two-horned beast - the British Mandate and later Western military intervention - were in control of, while in the presence of, the LBL beast.  Western powers financed and armed the "beast", healing and empowering, this final end-time foe of God's people.
The vital petroleum, that lubricates the consumption and waste driven global economy, is in the hands of Jihadists.  Without oil the whole world will fail.  Even a serious reduction would prove catastrophic.

Again: "….. it is said, five of the seven Kings are fallen, and one is, and another is not yet come; and the Beast that was and is not, being wounded to death with a sword, he is the eighth, and of the seven: he was therefore a collateral part of the seventh." - Isaac Newton

THE SCARLET BEAST

The Scarlet Beast, and the harlot that rides it, are covered in the chapter of that name in The False Prophet.

A verse by verse of the scarlet beast is still in progress and can be reviewed at this link.

Daniel 7:17 (link to this spot)

A brief study of Daniel 7:17.

(KJV) Daniel 7:17 These great beasts, which are four, [are] four kings, [which] shall arise out of the earth.

In Internet travels I have had folks try to suggest that a beast is defined in Daniel as a kingdom, or a king, in an effort to advance their belief in John Darby's "The" "Antichrist" is the beast of Revelation 13, actually switching the identity between verse 1 and 5.  And looking at the KJV verse above does give one pause.

The verses before Daniel 7:17 describe in great detail the beasts that are kingdoms, and pick back up with that definition two verses later in verse 7:19 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others,...
Daniel 7:23  Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth...

In 7:17 perhaps the KJV helper word "[are]" isn't a help at all.

When we look to various Bible versions we can see the confusion:

This one (new age) may be even more misleading, indicating an outright switch in definition.
(NASB) Daniel 7:17 "These great beasts, which are four in number, are four kings who will arise from the earth."
(How do kings arise from the earth?  Kingdoms do.)

These guys just gave it up and left the confusion out:
(CEV) Daniel 7:17 "The four beasts are four earthly kingdoms."

These guys too:
(TEV) Daniel 7:17 He said, "These four huge beasts are four empires which will arise on earth."

Tanach
 17. [He said] "These huge beasts, which are four, are four kingdoms, which will arise from the earth."

...fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom...

Strong's:
kingdom
Old Testament Hebrew Definition:
04437 malkuw (Aramaic) {mal-koo'}
corresponding to 04438; TWOT - 2829c; n f
AV - kingdom 49, reign 4, realm 3, kingly 1; 57
1) royalty, reign, kingdom
1a) royalty, kingship, kingly authority
1b) kingdom
1c) realm (of territory)
1d) reign (of time)

...these great beasts which are four [are] four kings...

kings
Old Testament Hebrew Definition:
04430 melek (Aramaic) {meh'-lek}
corresponding to 04428; TWOT - 2829a; n m
AV - king 179, royal 1; 180
1) king

Since God isn't the author of confusion, and in an effort to preserve the verse, perhaps the KJV would have served us better with no helper word or a different helper word like:

(KJV) Daniel 7:17 These great beasts, which are four, {of} four kings, [which] shall arise out of the earth.

Kindgoms do indeed arise out of the earth, as they are physically built from the foundations of walls up, and always with a king in charge of that building.
With the verse thus understood we may conclude:

Beasts: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome (virtually all Christians and Jews agree)

Of Kings:  Nebuchadnezzar, Cyrus the Great, Alexander the Great, and perhaps Ceasar Augustus (or Trajan, etc. take your pick).

Which is also a reasonable conclusion when the "helper" word is left out:

(KJV) Daniel 7:17 These great beasts, which are four, four kings, shall arise out of the earth.
